Campus Course Selection and Grade Inquiry Platform

Departmental course management and enrollment system covering registration, drop, and grade inquiries.

Project Background

The course registration system experiences high concurrency during peak enrollment periods while ensuring no overselling of available seats. The project follows a front-end and back-end separation architecture: the back end provides APIs and business validation, while the front end handles the registration interaction and result feedback.

Typical scenarios in educational informatization, with a focus on data consistency during concurrent course selection.

Tech Stack and Architecture

The backend uses Spring Boot for layered architecture: controllers handle parameter validation, the service layer manages course selection business rules, and the data access layer encapsulates queries and updates. The frontend uses Vue to build the course list and personal schedule pages, with unified request handling for loading and error states.

Key Implementation Points

Deduct balances at a unified entry point in the service layer: validate first, then update within the same transaction. Use request IDs to deduplicate repeated submissions, ensuring only one record per student-course pair. Filter lists by semester and department to avoid full table scans.

Expandable directions

Future enhancements can include waitlist management, grade export, and notification alerts, transforming the platform from a course selection tool into a comprehensive academic services portal.

Implementation Details

  • Added availability validation and idempotency handling to the course selection API to prevent duplicate submissions.
  • Build query indexes by student and course dimensions to optimize list loading.
  • Frontend provides instant feedback on course selection results, displaying clear error messages upon failure.
